Hi! I’m Emily.
I’m a tutor with twenty-five years of experience.
I have a BA from Harvard College, where I wrote my thesis on the anthropology of childhood, and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. I currently teach fourth grade in Palo Alto.
I specialize in K-8 math and literacy (though I occasionally work with older students as well.) My approach is based on forming strong relationships with children and meeting them where they are; kids find me engaging and fun, and most of the time aren’t even aware of how much they are learning. I have a particular affinity for “quirky” kids who need an adult who “gets” them. More than once, I have been called “the kid whisperer.”
I work with a broad range of students—from those who are struggling with basic concepts to those who need extra enrichment. I value strong relationships with parents, who are the ultimate experts on their own children.
I teach because I love kids, and I’ve spent decades getting very good at helping kids learn. Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
